The world’s most democratic account, the @Sweden Twitter account, became a victim of terror on Monday.
If you’re not familiar with the @Sweden account, here’s some background.
“As the first country in the world, Sweden hands over the country’s official Twitter account to its citizens. The project Curators of Sweden is an initiative […] for the promotion of Sweden. Every week another person receives exclusivity over the Twitter account @sweden,”
Here’s how the terrorist act played out in the late morning of switch over day. The baton had just handed over from last week’s curator Philip Wildenstam (found on Twitter as @wildenstam) to a now-unnamed Swedish woman. She is unnamed because like a magician’s assistant, poof, she disappeared. Along with her tweets.
So I wondered.
The democracy blackout was finally revealed later in the day in Dagensmedia.se (in Swedish)
In taking over the account, the unsuspecting new curator was targeted as if she had posted it herself. She expressed that she was fearful of her own safety and chose to step down as the account’s curator, probably the shortest-length rotation curation in the life of the account.
In other words, she was intimidated and threatened and feared for her safety. She was the victim of terror. And as she was the official curator of the Sweden’s official Twitter account, it was an act of terror.
Yes, I know I’m reaching and embellishing somewhat, but that’s what truly happening these days. Our rights to free speech have been terrorized. I am hesitant to embed the image (Copy of the original tweet, now removed by the owners of the Twitter account) in this post because:
a. I don’t want my life threatened. My real name is on this account.
b. I don’t want anyone’s life threatened by this post.
Personally I think Lars Vilks is a grandstanding, attention seeking hound himself. And with the recent attacks in Malmö, he now requires a whole security detail to just be interviewed. (link to a crazy meeting with Vilks in the woods – in Swedish).
Sweden was terrorized this week. It was real.
More media: Rough headline translation This Week’s no-no ” It seems I have broken the Sweden account. Typical us conservatives, we just destroy”
On an aside, this week’s @Sweden is running a #Swedishnono tag.
